Egnatia Odos is one of the largest infrastructure projects constructed in Europe during the last decade. It is a modern highway of about 680km, crossing northern Greece from Igoumenitsa, in the west, to Kipi, at the border with Turkey. A wide network of perpendicular roads is also being constructed, serving a very extended area.
Owner of the project is Egnatia Odos S.A. (E.O.S.A.). OBERMEYER has been providing services to E.O.S.A. since 1997, the year its Greek operations commenced. The excellent cooperation between the two organisations started with the appointment of OBERMEYER as an independent consultant for the checking of bridges structural design. This service is still being provided to E.O.S.A.; OBERMEYER has up until now checked a total of more than 70 bridges.
OBERMEYER has also been appointed for the structural design of 30 bridges. Furthermore, OBERMEYER was a member of a joint venture for the design of the 42km long section 12. The company was responsible for the geotechnical and highway design as well as the structural design of bridges and tunnels.
This gigantic project is expected to be completed in five years.
